"Secrets of the Shell" Exhibit & The Missing Tortoise, Cashew
The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque is now home to more than 200 turtles and tortoises. We explore the new exhibit “Turtles: Secrets of the Shell”, discuss the challenges facing turtles worldwide, and find out about Cashew, a leopard tortoise who has gone missing.
National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium officials are asking for the public's help to find Cashew. The tortoise weighs approximately 18 pounds and is more than 18 inches in diameter. Museum & Aquarium staff believe someone stole the animal and they are very concerned for the animals’ safety. The leopard tortoise requires a special diet and care to survive. It is apparent that somebody took the animal deliberately and is likely still in possession of the animal.
