Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity

What do dwarfs, prodigies, and deaf people have in common?

"In a curious way, differences that seem so isolating are actually what unites us and the thing we have most in common."

Andrew Solomon was a child that was different than his parents, and that experience shaped him in some important ways. As an adult, he set out to find others who had experienced the sense of difference; and he found many. He's written about what he found in the book: Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity.

This hour host Charity Nebbe talks to Solomon about children who are not like their parents and parents whose children are not like them.
