IPR's Studio One team returns to the Des Moines Social Club on September 1st to resume our series of live broadcasts. We've got a great slate of artists scheduled to perform over the next several months, beginning in September with Elizabeth Moen!

Based in Iowa City, Elizabeth Moen has joined us before at the Social Club, performing with Annalibera during IPR's collaboration with the Iowa Music Project. Her music has also been heard on both Studio One Tracks and Gas Money, Studio One's local music show that airs on our 24-hour web stream.

We add new music to our library at Studio One almost every week, and we're getting ready to enter one of the busiest times of year for new releases. Here are 12 albums coming in the next two months from some high-profile artists that we're especially excited about, and that you can pretty much count on hearing on Studio One Tracks. (Some of the songs included below include language that some listeners may find objectionable.)

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree - September 9th

What a weekend it's been at the 80/35 Music Festival! Here's song from TWINS, Iowa's masters of power pop. We'll have full video from all of our IPR live sessions soon!

The Chicago band Genome brought some seriously funky soul sounds to our free stage during their IPR Live Session! The Studio One team has been at the 80/35 Music Festival in Des Moines all weekend - look for full performances from our bands soon. Enjoy this tune from Genome!

Yet another great Des Moines band joined us in the middle of the day on Saturday at the 80/35 festival, as we were treated to an IPR Live Session for The Dead Line String Band! Bluegrass is alive and well in Iowa, and is well represented at the 80/35 festival every year. Have a listen!

Another Des Moines band, Easy Fruit rocked it early Saturday afternoon at the IPR stage. They had played earlier in the day at the Nationwide stage, and judging from the size of our crowd, they earned themselves many new fans! Enjoy this song from Easy Fruit's set!

It got loud early on Saturday at the 80/35 Music Festival when the Des Moines band Goldblums peformed an IPR Live Session at our free stage! Hopefully, you found one of their CDs strategically placed around the festival grounds. We love discovering great Iowa music right along with our listeners!

Our last IPR Live Session on Friday at the 80/35 Music Festival was with the Des Moines band TIRES. Their loud, energetic set was the perfect way to end the first day! Check out one of the songs from their set below. There's still time to check out some great music at the IPR free stage! Come join us!

One of our first Saturday IPR live sessions at this year's 80/35 festival was from the Iowa band SIRES, formerly known as Dylan Sires And Neighbors. It's the first of three Saturday performances from SIRES: in addition to their performance at the Nationwide stage, they'll be playing at one of the official after parties! Enjoy this song from one of Iowa's most beloved bands!

The Des Moines band The Smoothsayers made a big splash on Friday at 80/35 by announcing their new name! Pale Blue Urf packed lots of jamming goodness into their brief IPR live session. Their high-energy performance was a hit with the crowd at our stage!

We were joined by Des Moines' Courtney Krause at the IPR free stage on Friday at the 80/35 Music Festival, not long after her set at the Kum & Go stage. We had a great crowd for this very personable and energetic singer-songwriter, and she was joined by some more great musicians!

We got off to a great start on Friday at the IPR free stage at the 80/35 Music Festival with a live set from the Minneapolis band Pistol Whippin' Party Penguins! Bluegrass music has become a big part of the 80/35 experience, and we're happy to help carry that forward!

Friday was the first day of the 80/35 Music Festival in Des Moines, and once again IPR's Studio One team is on the scene with the IPR free stage! It was a special day for us, as we were treated to a solo acoustic performance by Craig Finn. Best known as the leader of The Hold Steady, Craig played a couple of songs from his second solo album, Faith In The Future.

Join us at the IPR free stage on Saturday for performances from SIRES, Goldblums, TWINS and many more great artists!

The IPR Studio One team is at this year's 80/35 Music Festival in Des Moines, and we're once again hosting many of the festival performers at the IPR free stage. On Friday we were joined by the Des Moines band Holy White Hounds. Their debut full-length album, Sparkle Sparkle, was recently released on the Razor & Tie label, and the band is wrapping up a nationwide tour. Have a listen below!

80/35 2016 is right around the corner, and project manager Amedeo Rossi says there's a lot of elements to the festival that attendees will remember from previous years - free water bottle filling stations courtesy of Des Moines Water Works, for one. What's different from past years? The festival is not over the 4th of July weekend.

"Having it the next weekend made it a little bit easier to book," says Rossi. "It was one of the reasons to switch it off of the 4th of July weekend."

The Cedar Falls band Peas And Carrot stopped by our Cedar Falls studios recently for a performance an interview. It was the band's second time performing live on Studio One Tracks, and a few things have changed since then. Peas And Carrot is now a four-piece band, and vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Audrey Robinson is the band's only remaining original member.

It was a great night of Midwest soul at the Des Moines Social Club, as we welcomed two great bands to the Kum & Go Theatre: from Minneapolis, Sonny Knight & The Lakers, and Des Moines' own The Maytags!

A retired truck driver, Sonny Knight joined forces with The Lakers and toured nonstop, earning rave reviews for their performances at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Rochester Jazz Festival. The band released a live double-LP, Do It Live, in 2015 and will release  their first studio album this year.

The final Wednesday of the month isn't our normal night for our live broadcast from the Des Moines Social Club, but we'll happily make an extra trip when the music is this good! Iowa native Julie Christensen and her band Stone Cupid were in the area for a string of performances, and managed to squeeze us in for a couple of great live sets. Check out their performance right here!

Hinterland Music Festival

The Hinterland Music Festival made its debut last year in St. Charles, IA, and was by all accounts a smashing success. Festival organizer Sam Summers is hoping for another successful festival in 2016, and they've got the lineup to do it! In this interview with IPR's Tony Dehner, Sam Summers discusses putting together the lineup for the Hinterland festival, and talks about camping, shuttle buses and other key parts of the Hinterland experience.

The Nadas

It was a special night at the Des Moines Social Club, as we welcomed long-time Iowa favorites The Nadas to our live broadcast of Studio One Tracks! Seating was limited for this event, so if you missed the show, we've got you covered - you can now listen to The Nadas' entire performance right here! You'll hear both sets, along with an encore that only the Social Club audience got to hear. Enjoy, and stay tuned to IPR's Studio One Tracks - we'll be announcing our March performer soon!

Cloud Cult

It's a busy time for the Minneapolis band Cloud Cult. The band's 10th album, The Seeker, will be released on February 12th (although you can hear it now on Studio One Tracks), and later this year will see the release of a feature film of the same name, based on the album.

Cloud Cult will be at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls on Thursday, February 4th, for their final concert before embarking on a three-month tour of the United States. It's the first concert in Gallagher Bluedorn's new Handpicked series.

The Nadas

It's almost time for our monthly live broadcast from the Des Moines Social Club, and this one could be our biggest yet, as the Studio One team welcomes The Nadas on February 4th! Reserve Tickets Here.

With their unique folk-rock sound, The Nadas are an Iowa institution. Over 20 years, they've released eight studio albums and two live albums, and continue to perform live year-round while writing and recording new material.

Jim Viner

IPR's Studio One team is returning to the Basement Venue of the Des Moines Social Club on Thursday, January 7th, for our first live broadcast of 2016. This time, host Mark Simmet and the Studio One team welcome Jim Viner!

Christmas will be here before we know it, and we firmly believe it's not too early to celebrate. Join IPR at the Basement venue of the Des Moines Social Club on December 3rd for A Conquered Christmas!

Iowa singer-songwriter Christopher The Conquered will be the host for this event, featuring classic songs of the season, along with new songs celebrating thankfulness, unity and love. There will be lots of surprises, including special guests that Chris hasn't even told us about yet!

Dylan Sires and Neighbors

It's that time again! We're heading back to the Des Moines Social Club on Thursday, November 5th. After doing a couple of upstairs shows, we're going back underground to our natural habitat, the Basement. IPR's Mark Simmet will be spinning your daily soundtrack right by the stage, and we'll be joined by the Cedar Valley's Dylan Sires and Neighbors, one of the hottest bands in Iowa right now. They've had a busy year, touring Japan and performing at the Gentlemen Of The Road stopover in Waverly, all while continuing to play across the state and recording their third album.

Beverly and the Accordion

The Friends of KUNI are presenting an evening of live music on Thursday, October 22nd at Gingers on the Hill in Cedar Falls, with music from Peas and Carrot and Beverly and the Accordion. Denny McCabe of the Friends of KUNI says this is a listener appreciation event that's "in celebration of local radio, local music, local beer and local spirits."

Des Moines Social Club/Mickey Davis

After a summer break, the Studio One team is heading back to the Des Moines Social Club on Thursday, September 3rd! IPR's Mark Simmet will be spinning your daily soundtrack live from the Kum & Go Theater at the Social Club, and he'll be joined by the Waterloo band TWINS, who will be bringing their brand of high-energy rock and roll and performing songs from their upcoming third album!

With the 80/35  Music Festival behind us for another year, some Iowa music fans may now be wondering, "Okay, what's next?" We're here to help! In this latest edition of the B-Side podcast, the Studio One team is joined by IPR's Lindsey Moon to talk about upcoming music festivals that are on our radar. And, as always, we want to hear from you! What festivals are you excited about? What festivals did we miss that we should know about? What advice do you have for festival attendees? Thanks!

IPR/Tony Dehner

The Des Moines independent hip hop group prettygirlhatemachine re-energized the IPR Stage Saturday afternoon!  Unfortunately, IPR's videographer had gone to offload video from previous performances and couldn't get back in time for their set.  However, we do have the audio- enjoy!
